Gearhart is a small 1.91 square mile town located just 3 miles north of Seaside. Named after 1848 settler Philip Gearhart, the town was officially established in 1890. The area grew in popularity in 1889 when a railroad was built between Astoria and Seaside. People were drawn to the pleasant landscape and enjoyed simply wandering and picnicking.
Now home to 1462 people (according to the 2010 Census), Gearhart is still a draw to those who love the beautiful Northern Oregon Coast town’s landscape. Gearhart offers many public outdoor recreational opportunities including the Gearhart Public Golf Course, the Gearhart Tennis Courts and Basketball hoop, the Gearhart park, and of course the beautiful Gearhart beach.
Weather is typical Northern Oregon Coast weather with average high temp from 49-65 and average lows 37-53 degrees. It is perfect for those who wish to avoid the extremes. Homes in the area have a median price around $303,000 making Gearhart and affordable location to find your next beach home.
